Field Peas StrengthenVANCOUVER - Apr 21/06 - SNS -- North American field pea markets continued to strengthen during the past week against rapidly tightening stocks in both the United States and Canada. The USDA has been encountering some difficulty originating yellow peas on recent PL-480 food aid tenders, but the latest tender continued to focus on the commodity. The USDA is seeking 530 metric tons (MT) of split and 1,440 MT of whole and/or split yellow peas for June movement. Prospective and actual purchases now stand at 61,410 MT, within striking distance of last season's record 65,040 MT bought for shipment as food aid.
