Little Change in Turkish Sugar OutputWASHINGTON - Apr 20/06 - SNS -- Turkey is expected to harvest 14.7 million metric tons (MT) of sugar beets from 330,000 hectares this year, contributing in the production of 2.2 million MT centrifugal sugar in 2007,little changed from the current season. Discussing the outlook, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country noted the proportion of the sugar beet production produced by the Turkish Sugar Corporation (TSC) has been declining since some of the refineries have been transferred to the Privatization Administration. It is projected that TSC refineries will be producing 7.3 million MT of sugar beets on about 170,000 hectares and private refineries, including PANKOBIRLIK refineries, will produce a total of 7.4 million MT on about 160,000 hectares.
