Ukraine Expects Increase Pea AreaVANCOUVER - Apr 7/06 - SNS -- Peas have become an important export-oriented crop for Ukraine. This should see seeded area continue to increase this year from 326,000 hectares in 2005 to at least 330,000. A return to average yields would see output drop from 616,000 metric tons (MT) in 2005 to a forecast 587,000, but the U.S. agricultural attache for the country believes there is a chance output will increase to 650,000 MT for the largest crop since 2000. Exports of peas in 2006-07 are expected to increase from the 2005-06 level due to the strong demand form traditional markets in EU-25.
