Jan-Feb Fats and Oil Usage RisesWASHINGTON - Apr 6/06 - SNS -- Total consumption of fats and oils in the United States was above year earlier levels in the first two months of 2006 calendar year, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Usage of all types totalled 3,863.4 million pounds between January and February, up 3.7% from the 3,725.8 million pounds consumed during the same two month period last year. All usage categories, except margarine and the baking or frying fats group, are up this year. The biggest gains are in the volume of oil used to make salad or cooking oils, up 13.8% at 2,235.7 million pounds; while vegetable oil used to make baking or frying fats are down 8.8% at 1,386.7 million pounds.
