Record Bulk Conventional Pea SalesVANCOUVER - Apr 4/06 - SNS -- Canadian bulk conventional export clearances have already set a season record for field peas, according to data from the Canadian Ports Clearance Association. In the August through March period, unofficial clearances through licensed terminals at Canadian ports exceeded 1.16 million metric tons (MT), besting the old record of 960,449 MT set in 2000-01 by a wide margin. While export clearances have begun to slow, Canada is a long way from finishing its 2005-06 export program, with considerable volumes of peas still to be shipped to the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere. Last fall there was considerable gnashing of teeth over reports India would have a bigger rabi or winter season pulse harvest than the previous year. The latest data from the Indian government pegs the combined kharif and rabi season harvest for 2005-06 at 14.4 million MT. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
