Large Caliber Chickpeas RecoverVANCOUVER - Mar 31/06 - SNS -- International chickpea markets strengthened during the past week as importers began to show a preference for Mexican origin product. India had been competing directly with Mexico in large caliber chickpea markets, but some importers are not happy with the quality of beans supplied and are showing a willingness to pay a premium for Mexican origin. Markets are unlikely to respond to the latest seedings intentions report from the United States. Statements by the USDA suggest all the growth in seedings in dry edible beans will be accounted for by chickpeas being grown to take advantage of the U.S. loan program and in response to high prices for large kabulis during the past year.
