Beans Other Than Chickpeas DownVANCOUVER - Mar 31/06 - SNS -- Dry edible bean and chickpea growers in the United States plan to increase seeded area 3% this year, but there is a good chance that if chickpeas are ignored, total planted area will decline from last year. In releasing this year's seeding intentions, the USDA did not break out bean area by class, but stressed, "Part of the increase in dry bean acreage is due to more chickpeas (Garbanzo beans) expected to be planted. A world wide shortage and good prices have influenced growers to increase planting intentions in Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington."
