Few Changes in Birdseeds
VANCOUVER - Mar 24/06 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets were little changed during the past week.
Markets remain unconcerned with the continued spread of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza across the Middle East and Europe.
However, the fact it may have an impact on birdseed ingredient markets was underscored by news Jordan banned imports of poultry products and pet birds and has stockpiled 60,000 doses of Tamiflu to treat people if the virus jumps from birds to people as it has in other countries.
It reported its first case of the disease in Turkeys which died in the town of Ajloun. North American officials are preparing for the disease's arrival there, expected once birds migrate south next fall.
