Good Demand for NA PeasVANCOUVER - Mar 24/06 - SNS -- North American field pea markets continue to enjoy good demand, with the USDA remaining an active buyer of U.S. origin peas, while Canadian exporters continue to move product from that country. Export clearances from Canada are experiencing a seasonal slow down, especially to destinations such as India. But, shippers in that country remain optimistic the 2005-06 season will close with significantly lower ending stocks than originally expected. It now appears bulk clearances of peas reported by the Canadian Ports Clearance Association during the opening quarter of the 2006 calendar year will total 281,559 metric tons (MT). This would be the second best opening quarter on record, edged out by 2004 when 294,875 MT of peas shipped in the January through March period.
