French Field Pea Export SummaryVANCOUVER - Mar 17/06 - SNS -- French field pea exports remain below year earlier levels, with shipments in January down almost 27% at 28,905 metric tons (MT) to all destinations. Other than the 44,270 MT of peas shipped to India and Pakistan in August, exporters have focussed their attention on European buyers. The net result is 82.5% of all peas exported so far during the 2005-06 marketing campaign have been to European buyers, up from 79.7% at this time last season and the 79.9% they took across the entire 2003-04 marketing campaign. The change in emphasis reflects dwindling interest in growing peas because of reduced support available under the Common Agriculture Policy and relatively low international field pea markets on account of robust competition for available demand from the United States and Canada.
