USDA Gives Soymeal to PhilippinesWASHINGTON - Mar 8/06 - SNS -- The USDA will donate 11,600 metric tons (MT) of soybean meal for use ion the Philippines. It is going to the private voluntary organization, Agricultural Cooperative Developmental International Volunteer Overseas Cooperative Assistance (ACDI/VOCA). The agency will sell the soybean meal and use the proceeds to enhance cocoa production by providing agricultural training, supporting fermentation and drying centers, supporting cocoa seedling production and distribution, rehabilitating cocoa trees, and assisting in the establishment of quality standards for the Philippine cocoa industry. The donation will be made under USDA's Food for Progress program, administered by the Foreign Agricultural Service. The supply period is fiscal year 2006.
