Increased Chickpeas Forecast for U.S.VANCOUVER - Mar 3/06 - SNS -- Agriculture Canada is looking for total chickpea seedings in the United States to climb 25% this year to at least 111,200 acres. Most of the increase is expected to be accounted for my large kabuli chickpeas, which Agriculture Canada says will climb from 79,300 acres in 2005 to a forecast 101,300 acres this year. By inference, small caliber kabuli and desi chickpea area is forecast to decrease from 10,500 to 9,900 acres. Agriculture Canada intended to say that small caliber chickpea areas would rise 25%, but it started with an incorrect split between large and small caliber chickpea seedings. It used last year's small seeded caliber harvested area as the forecast seeded area for 2006. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
