Taiwan Allocates Rice Import QuotaWASHINGTON - Mar 3/06 - SNS -- Earlier this week, Taiwan allocated its second tranche of 20,652 metric tons (MT) of the 2006 private sector rice quota, reports the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. The remaining 15,000 MT of 2006 private sector rice quota will be allocated on April 28. According to a preliminary statistics, Taiwan private sector imports were 49,815 MT in 2005, with a quota fill rate 98.35%. The United States had a 14.41% share, whereas Thailand had 82.94% and Australia, Egypt, Japan and other countries combined for 2.65%. Taiwan public sector imports were 21,267 MT in 2005.
