Field Peas Seeing DemandVANCOUVER - Feb 24/06 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week on a relatively quiet note, though exporters are looking for demand to remain relatively good through the balance of the marketing year. Purchases by India have entered a seasonal slow down, but fresh demand from Pakistan against reports of a disappointing rabi season pulse crop in that country has generated good optimism among Canadian exporters about shipment prospects for the March forward period. Recent reductions in ocean freight rates from Thunder Bay are also seen as supportive for additional feed pea sales to Spain and other European destinations. This change could also be helpful for growers in the eastern Prairie region and in North Dakota because of their proximity to Great Lakes shipping lanes.
