Chickpeas Transitioning to Mexican New CropVANCOUVER - Feb 24/06 - SNS -- International chickpea markets are starting the transition into the 2006 new crop markets, with the bulk of Mexico's harvest expected within the next couple of weeks. Processors in that country are now forecasting this year's exportable surplus will be double last year's at around 70,000 metric tons (MT) and prices have started moving down. However, processors and exporters are expected to take a fairly disciplined approach to marketing their crop, despite forecasts of fantastic increases in Canadian kabuli chickpea seedings this year.
