Sharp Rise in U.S. Red Meat Stocks
WASHINGTON - Feb 21/06 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers jumped 121 million pounds in January to 1,005 million pounds, up 4% from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage.
Frozen pork supplies jumped 23% during the month to 528 million pounds, up 6% from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 28% from last month at 61.3 million pounds and down 3% from last year.
Supplies of beef rose from year earlier levels, rising 1% to 456.3 million pounds, up around 22 million pounds from the previous month.
