French Field Pea Exports SinkingVANCOUVER - Feb 20/06 - SNS -- Field pea exports from France are better than initially expected, following upward revisions to most of the monthly data since July, but clearances remain well below last year's levels, according to data assembled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP). During the first half of the 2005-06 marketing year, France has only exported 226,805 metric tons (MT) of field peas, down from 311,715 MT during the same six month period last season. Exports to the Indian subcontinent are down, falling 37% from 70,600 MT last season to 44,270 MT this season. This reflects fierce competition from Canada, which exported a record volume of field peas to India during the same six-month period and strong regional demand relative to the size of last year's harvest.
