Lentils Easier on Light DemandVANCOUVER - Feb 10/06 - SNS -- North American lentil markets were generally easier in both grower and inter-dealer markets during the past week. Export sales activity are experiencing a seasonal slow down as buyers in Europe have already covered their winter needs and buyers in South America prepare to cover their's. Interestingly, most of the weakness was in green lentils, with Canadian whole red lentils maintaining their value as the needs of processors remain ahead of quantities offered by growers. This is keeping red lentil grower bids in Canada on a par with those for large green or Laird lentils, with Richlea, Eston and French green bids discounted.
