India Planted More PulsesVANCOUVER - Feb 6/06 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's rabi season pulses in India has pulled ahead of last year, according to the latest information available from the country's agriculture department. As of February 4, 13.237 million hectares of pulses have been sown, up 5.2% from the 12.586 million hectares in the ground as of this time last year. Most of the increase is accounted for by chickpeas, with area estimated at 7.69 million hectares, up 8% from last year; while seedings of other pulses are up 1,56% at around 5.54 million hectares. Interestingly, seedings of all crops is up over last year, rising 3.3% to 58.858 million hectares. Coarse and cereal grain area is up around 800,000 hectares, compared to the 650,000 hectare increase in pulses; and a roughly 500,000 hectare gain in oilseed plantings.
