U.S. Fats and Oils Use Up In 2005WASHINGTON - Feb 2/06 - SNS -- Total consumption of fats and oils in the United States finished 2005 posting a 6% increase over 2004, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Usage of all types totalled 22,880 million pounds between January and December, compared to 21,568 million pounds consumed during the previous calendar year. Gains in salad or cooking oil usage and the other edible category offset declines in baking or frying fats, margarine and inedible oil disappearance. Salad or cooking oils usage ended 2005 up 15.6% at 12,612 million pounds; while vegetable oil used to make margarine is down 30.4% at 899 million pounds.
