Record Special Crop Stocks on HandVANCOUVER - Feb 1/06 - SNS -- Canadian specialty crop stocks continue to build, with the quantity on hand as of December 31 rising for the third year in a row to set a new record of 3.859 million metric tons (MT) of peas, lentils, canaryseed, mustard and sunflower in all positions. That breaks last year's record by 488,000 MT, as all crops but mustard and sunflower seed set new highs for December 31, according to the latest Statistics Canada data. Interestingly, field peas were only up 20,000 MT and canaryseed 30,000 MT from last year, with the result all the increase was accounted for by the 410,000 MT jump in lentil stocks.
