Swing Oleoresin Technology LicensedNEW DELHI - Jan 19/06 - SNS -- Kochi-based oleoresin major Synthite Industrial Chemicals entered a licensing agreement with the Regional Research Laboratory-Thiruvananthapuram (RRL-T) to use its technology to process fresh spices and botanicals. Last year, RRL-T's "Swing Technology" was licensed to Plant Lipids, which together with Synthite Industrial Chemicals reputedly account for 75% of the oleoresins marketed in the world. The Hindu Business Line reports RRL-T as saying that unlike technology previously used to produce oleoresin from dry spice, "Swing" can be used with fresh spice, producing superior organoleptic qualities at a lower cost. Officials at the research agency said their technology has paved the way for producing value-added products such as oils and oleoresins from fresh spice without necessarily having to undergo the drying process. High-altitude spice plantations stricken constantly by weather events are expected to benefit.
