U.S. Pea Stocks Situation UnclearVANCOUVER - Jan 13/06 - SNS -- USDA estimates of field peas in all positions as of December 1 did not help clarify the stock situation in the United States because the numbers appear low. The USDA said there were 290,075 metric tons (MT) on hand as of December 1. The available supply of peas in the six months ending December 1 was 780,052 MT, made up of a 498,173 MT harvest and 144,798 MT of peas on hand as of June 1. Official export disappearance during the period totalled 119,258 MT for an inferred domestic disappearance rate of 373,719 MT. While interest in feeding peas to livestock has increased significantly in the United States this season, this level of consumption is difficult to explain and suggests on farm stocks may not be accurately counted.
