Rough Rice Stocks Down in U.S.
WASHINGTON - Jan 12/06 - SNS -- Rough rice stocks in all positions on December 1 in the United States totaled 160 million hundredweight (cwt), down 4% from the total on December 1, 2004.
Stocks held on farms totaled 58.6 million cwt, and off-farm stocks totaled 102 million cwt. Long grain varieties accounted for 78% of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted for 20%, and short grain varieties accounted for 2%.
Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 5.94 million cwt, 28% above a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 4.63 million cwt of whole kernel rice and 1.31 million cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
