Feed Pea Shippers Wait for SpainVANCOUVER - Jan 6/06 - SNS -- International feed pea markets started the new year quietly, reflecting the moderate level of activity seen during the Christmas and New Year's break. Exports sales and shipping activity is expected to pick up in the February and March period, but most market participants doubt it will be as busy as in the fall shipping period. Spain has been the dominant buyer thus far this marketing year, something which is not expected to change as the country continues to deal with a shortage of feed ingredients caused by last year's drought. Exporters estimate Canada shipped 550,000 metric tons (MT) of feed pea to Spain by the end of December. "Currently, the domestic market in Spain is quiet with buyers trying to get the feel of the local feed market," the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool noted in a recent comment.
