U.S. Fats and Oil Usage Up Over 2004WASHINGTON - Jan 6/06 - SNS -- Total consumption of fats and oils in the United States remains ahead of year earlier levels, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Usage of all types totalled 21,048.7 million pounds between January and November, up 6.2% from the 19,814 million pounds consumed during the same 11-month period last year. All usage categories, except margarine and the baking or frying fats group, are up this year. The biggest gains are in the volume of oil used to make salad or cooking oils, up 15.8% at 11,560 million pounds; while vegetable oil used to make margarine is down 29.9% at 823 million pounds.
