USDA Designates More Disaster Counties

WASHINGTON - Jan 5/06 - SNS -- The USDA designated counties in California, Oregon and Texas as primary natural disaster areas, making all qualified farm operators eligible for low-interest emergency (EM) loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).

California

In California, Sutter County has been designated primary natural disaster areas due to losses caused by cold, wet weather that occurred from Feb. 14, 2005, through Feb. 26, 2005.

Also eligible because they are contiguous are Butte, Colusa, Placer, Sacramento, Yolo and Yuba Counties.

Oregon

In Oregon, Benton, Wasco and Yamhill Counties have been designated primary natural disaster areas.

Benton and Yamhill were designated due to losses caused by excessive rains and cool temperatures that occurred from March 15, 2005, through June 30, 2005.

Also eligible because they are contiguous and have sustained production losses due to the same disaster conditions are Clackamas, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Polk, Tillamook and Washington.

Wasco was designated due to losses occurring during the current disaster year beginning Jan. 1, 2005, and continuing.

Also eligible because they are contiguous and have sustained production losses due to the same disaster conditions are Clackamas, Gilliam, Hood River, Jefferson, Marion, Sherman and Wheeler Counties.

Texas

In Texas, Coryell and Lamb Counties have been designated primary natural disaster areas.

Coryell County was designated due to losses caused by drought that occurred from April 1, 2005, through Aug. 4, 2005.

Also eligible because they are contiguous and have sustained production losses due to the same disaster conditions are Bell, Bosque, Hamilton, Lampasas and McLennan Counties.

Lamb County was designated due to losses caused by hail that occurred on Sept. 12, 2005.

Also eligible because they are contiguous and have sustained production losses due to the same disaster conditions are Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Hale, Hockley, Lubbock and Parmer Counties.

The counties listed above were designated natural disaster areas on Dec. 13, 2005, making all qualified farm operators eligible for EM loans, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for the loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
