Year Ending ThoughtsVANCOUVER - Dec 23/05 - SNS -- Markets were relatively quiet entering the Christmas and New Year's holiday week, with a large number of participants away from their desks. The USDA tender at the start of the week was welcomed by field pea and lentil processors in the United States because it helps ensure their facilities will remain busy through the opening month of the new calendar year. By contrast, the latest regularly scheduled USDA PL-480 food aid tender ignored dry edible beans. Even so, relatively tight outlooks for several classes of beans allowed those markets to finish the week mostly unchanged. Despite the quiet finish for markets, there are numerous issues percolating in the background which could emerge as hot topics in 2006.
