Hops Output Drops in U.S.WASHINGTON - Dec 16/05 - SNS -- Hops production totaled 52.9 million pounds for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington this year, down 4% from the 2004 crop of 55.2 million pounds, and 3% below the 2003 production of 54.6 million pounds, according to the USDA. Idaho's 2005 production increased 4%. Production in Washington and Oregon dropped 5% and 6%, respectively. Acreage increased in all three states in 2005. Washington showed a 9% acreage increased. Idaho and Oregon were both up 1%. Yields declined in Washington to 1,871 pounds per acre, and in Oregon to 1,560 pounds per acre. Idaho yields averaged 1,640 pounds per acre, 52 pounds more than a year ago. Washington growers produced 75% of the U.S. hop crop for 2005. Zeus, Columbus/Tomahawk, Galena, and Willamette were the leading varieties in Washington, accounting for 70% of the State's hop crop.
