Little Change in Export Feed PeasVANCOUVER - Dec 10/05 - SNS -- International feed pea markets ended the week little changed in U.S. dollar terms, though local markets in Europe were down in local currency terms. While animals do not stop eating during the Christmas and New Years period, there is generally a reduction in overall trading interest, which can give markets a sluggish tone. Canadian domestic markets will continue to see ongoing demand as exporters cover shipping commitments from sales made earlier in the year. The fall period saw a strong export program for both Canadian and U.S. origin feed peas, with most going to drought striken Spain. As noted recently by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, "The focus for feed pea exports will now turn towards January and February positions as Spanish buyers will need to refill warehouse space for the spring after the arrival of November and December shipments. . . . The Spanish feed pea market has had minor assistance from a bearish tone in the freight market ex West Coast indications are below US$30 (per metric ton or MT)."
