USDA Names Organic Board MembersWASHINGTON - Dec 7/05 - SNS -- The USDA named Valerie Frances the first Executive Director for the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). Frances has experience in the organic arena in both private and public sectors and is well respected in the organic community. Her interest in organic agriculture spans many years, including work with organic agriculture groups and direct farm-to-consumer marketing in the state of Maryland. Frances will begin her duties as the Executive Director in late January 2006. The USDA also appointed six new members to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). The following appointees will serve terms beginning January 24, 2006, and ending January 24, 2011. Certifier member: Joseph Smillie; Consumer/Public Interest members: Daniel Giacomini, Jennifer Hall and Katrina Heinze; Producer members: Kevin Engelbert and Jeffrey Moyer.
