USDA Buying Cherries for Domestic ProgramsWASHINGTON - Dec 6/05 - SNS -- The USDA intends to buy up to 15 million pounds of tart cherries in the finished product for use in child nutrition and other domestic food assistance programs. Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, which began October 1, the USDA has purchased 549,000 pounds of dry beans. USDA purchased 1.6 million pounds of dry beans in the 2005 fiscal year and 3.5 million pounds in fiscal 2004.
