Ukraine Finds Bird Flu in CrimeaKIEV - Dec 5/05 - APK -- In the three bird-flu affected areas of the Crimea the infection localization works are going on. The poultry is being culled in all the settlements where the highly pathogenic bird flu was found. Press-service of Ukraine's Ministry for Emergency Situations informed that as of December 5, 7.00 a.m. (Kiev time) over 3,000 heads of poultry had been confiscated from households. A 3-kilometer protection zone has been placed around the affected villages and quarantine restrictions have been imposed to stop the expansion of the virus. Disinfection and other anti-epidemic works are underway. Poultry movements in and out of the quarantine zone have been banned. The bodies of dead birds are being burnt out. No poultry deaths have been so far registered outside of Crimea or in other areas of the peninsula apart from Jankoy, Nizhnegorsky and Sovietsky Raions.
