Markets Ignore Aussie Desi Crop NewsVANCOUVER - Dec 2/05 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week mostly unchanged in limited activity, with desi chickpea markets unaffected by harvest progress in the Australia and projections the country will net 125,500 metric tons (MT) of product this year. While there is considerable optimism about the size of rabi season pulse crops to be grown in India and Pakistan, the fact Australia's crop is well below the recent five-year average 169,240 MT made it easier for markets to not become concerned. Such a laissez faire attitude is helped by the fact Canada's desi chickpea production is on a downtrend and growers in the United States do not appear keenly interested in the crop, despite being able to quality for farm support payments.
