Turkey Eggs Down, Poults UpWASHINGTON - Nov 14/05 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity was mixed during the past month, with November starting with a decline in the number of eggs in incubators, through more poults were placed. In its latest report, the USDA said turkey eggs in incubators in the United States totaled 27.1 million, down 4% from November 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were 2% above the October 1, 2005 total of 26.5 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 4% at 4,500,000 eggs; West North Central down 1% at 10,719,000; North and South Atlantic up 1% at 8,624,000; South Central down 31% at 1,583,000; and West down 11% at 1,709,000 eggs in incubators. The 21.4 million poults placed during October 2005 in the United States were up 3% from the number placed during the same month a year ago. Placements were down 6% from September 2005.
