Modest Rise in U.S. Pea and Lentil ResidualsVANCOUVER - Nov 10/05 - SNS -- Record pea and lentil harvests have been confirmed for the United States by the USDA, but the crops are not as big as initially expected. Both field pea and lentil production are up over 21% from last year, with field pea output rising almost 109,000 metric tons (MT) to total 626,554; while lentil output is up around 42,000 MT at 231,380 MT. Production is only counted in North Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Output in other states can only be inferred by the volume of peas and lentils for which farmers seek loan deficiency payments (LDP) and or loans.
