U.S. Field Pea Crop Climbs 21%WASHINGTON - Nov 10/05 - SNS -- Field pea production in the United States is estimated at a record 13.8 million cwt (100 pound units) or 626,553 metric tons (MT), up 21% from the 2004 estimate, according to the latest USDA crop production estimates. Area for harvest, at 761,900 acres, is 50% above a year ago. Average yield is forecast at 1,813 pounds per acre, down 436 pounds from last season. North Dakota's dry edible pea production is forecast at 9.79 million cwt or 443,845 MT, up 41% from last season. North Dakota's harvested acres, at 515,000, increased by 74%, while yields are down 440 pounds per acre from last season. Above normal daytime temperatures and dry conditions during most of April allowed producers to plant the crop ahead of the 5-year average pace.
