Bird Flu Worriess Feed Pea MarketsVANCOUVER - Oct 21/05 - SNS -- Confidence in feed peas markets was ruffled by the discovery of the H5N1 avian influenza in Romania and Russia and fresh outbreaks in China. This has resulted in what is hoped to be a short term reduction in poultry consumption in some European countries, causing demand for feed ingredients to slow. Chances of the H5N1 virus reaching Europe and Africa are troubling because the disease can infect humans. Chicago Board of Trade analysts said, "Even if the impact is temporary, the sudden drop in demand for poultry has meal buyers frozen, and as the meal pipeline empties, the process can leave the appearance of a sharp drop in meal demand."
