Buckwheat Growth Possible, But DifficultWINNIPEG - Oct 18/05 - SNS -- Expansion of Canadian buckwheat beyond current levels will be difficult without the development of new varieties and emergence of new markets to help stabilize income at higher average levels, argues Agriculture Canada in a recent analysis of the crop. "There are three main challenges which are limiting buckwheat production in Canada," says Stan Skrypetz, Pulse and Special Crops Analyst at Agriculture Canada's Market Analysis Division in Winnipeg, "low yields, lack of frost tolerance, and the difficulty in controlling weeds.
