USDA Designates More Ag Disaster CountiesWASHINGTON - Oct 17/05 - SNS -- The USDA designated counties in South Dakota and Utah as primary natural disaster areas, making all qualified farm operators eligible for low-interest emergency (EM) loans from the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA). In South Dakota, Bon Homme, Clay, Lincoln and Turner Counties were designated as primary disaster areas due to drought, high winds, spring frosts, excessive heat, flash flooding, hail and excessive rainfall that have occurred since April 1, 2005. Also eligible because they are contiguous are Charles Mix, Hutchinson, McCook, Minnehaha, Union and Yankton Counties. In Utah, Washington County was designated a primary disaster area due to fires resulting from lightening that occurred from June 26, 2005, through Aug. 1, 2005. Iron and Kane Counties are also eligible because they are contiguous. These counties were designated on Oct. 7, 2005, making all qualified farm operators eligible for EM loans, provided eligibility requirements are met.
