Cocoa Output Up in GhanaWASHINGTON - Oct 14/05 - SNS -- Cocoa production in Ghana is expected to advance from 580,000 to 600,000 metric tons (MT) this season, according to the U.S,. agricultural attache for the country, reflecting adequate and timely rains and the Ghanan government commitment to support the sector. In 2003-04, cocoa bean yield was a record high, enabling Ghana to maintain its position as the world's second largest exporter of cocoa after Cote d'Ivoire. In order to encourage farmers to increase production, the Government of Ghana has consistently increased the producer price of cocoa each year.
