Philippines Limits Wild Bird TradeHONG KONG - Sep 28/05 - SNS -- The Philippine government has banned imports of live, wild birds and their by-products from several Asian neighbors to try to prevent the H5N1 avian influenza from entering the country. Environment Secretary Michael Defensor said the country will not to issue import permits for wild birds and their by-products from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The country is also stepping up surveillance of wetland areas to ensure migratory birds are not carrying the virus into the country.
