Cost of Shipping to Japan EasesWASHINGTON - Sep 22/05 - SNS -- Easing ocean freight rates resulted in a decrease in the cost of moving wheat from North Dakota and Kansas to Japan in the second quarter of the current calendar year, according to the USDA's Transportation and Marketing Programs/Transportation Services Branch weekly Grain Transportation Report. "Wheat transportation costs from North Dakota and Kansas to Japan through the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and U.S. Gulf continued downward during the second quarter 2005. This was due to the decline in ocean rates. North Dakota and Kansas wheat transportation costs to Japan through the PNW decreased about 9% during this period," the USDA said.
