U.S. Turkey Hatchery SlowsWASHINGTON - Sep 14/05 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity slowed in August relative to last year, judging from the latest USDA data. Turkey eggs in incubators on September 1, 2005, in the United States totaled 28.0 million, 1 percent below September 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were also 8 percent below the August 1, 2005 total of 30.4 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 3% at 4,333,000 eggs; West North Central up 1% at 11,228,000; North and South Atlantic up 1% at 8,640,000; South Central down 24% at 1,748,000; and West up 12% at 2,059,000 eggs in incubators. The 23.6 million poults placed during August 2005 in the United States were down slightly from the number placed during the same month a year ago. Placements were down 4 percent from July 2005.
