Katrina Cuts Sugarcane EstimateWASHINGTON - Sep 12/05 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in the United States this year is forecast at 30.2 million tons, 3% below the August forecast but 4% above 2004, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. Sugarcane growers intend to harvest 942,900 acres for sugar and seed during the 2005 crop year, down less than 1% from August but 4,700 acres more than last year's final harvested area.
