"Exports to the U.S. for the month were 9% above the same time last year, to 37,000 MT shipped weight," the industry group said, "whilst demand for Australian beef in Canada continues to strengthen, with exports for the month up 42% year on year, to 9,200 MT shipped weight. Beef exports to Japan continue to be well below the same time last year, down 28% for June, to 19,600 MT shipped weight." Last year Australia shipped a record quantity of beef. It is no longer possible for Australia to match or break that number, with 2001-02 fiscal year to date shipments now 9% lower at 902,000 MT shipped weight.
