Commercial Egg Usage up SharplyWASHINGTON - Jul 3/02 - SNS -- Usage of shell eggs by food manufacturers in the United States was up sharply during May, while edible and inedible liquid yields also posted solid year over year gains, suggests the latest USDA report on the sector. During May, shell eggs broken totaled 168 million dozen during May 2002, up 6% from May a year ago; lifting year to date usage to 758 million dozen, up 4% from the 730 million dozen broken in 2001. The quantity of edible liquid harvested from the eggs was up 7% at 215.8 million pounds during May. So far this year, 969 million pounds of edible liquid has been harvested, up 4% from 2001.
