India's Spice Exports Advance 8.2%DELHI - Jul 3/02 - STAT -- The current marketing year is getting off to a strong start, with India's spice exports rising 8.2% above year earlier levels. Data compiled by the Spices Board of India reveals shipments during April and May totalled 41,050 metric tons (MT), compared to 37,940 MT during the same two month period last year. Exports were split fairly evenly between April and May, with clearances in May reaching 22,140 MT, up from 20,615 MT last year. Other spice showing an improvement in sales include chilli, ginger, coriander, cumin and fenugreek; while export sales of turmeric, pepper, mint oil and the other spices category are down from last year's levels.
