Tasmania Targets Eco-Label Wool MarketDONALD - Jul 2/02 - SNS -- Australia's island state of Tasmania hopes to establish a foothold in the Eco-label market for wool based on findings its wool producers generate wool with low levels of pesticide residues. Dr Ian Russell from CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology, Victoria, will be in Tasmania for discussions aimed at establishing a reliable supply of wool for the Eco-label market. Dr Russell will be holding discussions with Roberts, DPIWE and TQW (Total Quality Wool) marketing to consider the criteria needed to supply the Eco-label market and the potential benefits to the state in demonstrating the ability to be a major supplier of this wool. Tests of wool pesticide residues carried out by DPIWE and Roberts Ltd over the past few years have shown that many Tasmanian wool producers are able to supply wool with little or no pesticide residue.
