BNSF Changes Hurt North Dakota FarmersFARGO - Aug 19/05 - SNS -- BNSF Railway is being criticized for increasing rates and decreasing railcar supply to most country grain elevators on its lines. In a letter to BNSF President and Chief Executive Officer Matt Rose and Vice President for Agricultural Products Kevin Kaufman, 11 North Dakota agricultural organizations, North Dakota Governor John Hoeven and Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson urged the railroad to put adequate railcars back into ordering programs for single, 26- and 52-car shipments. "BNSF benefits tremendously from the agriculture industry in North Dakota, and they need to provide fair treatment in both rates and service for our farmers and shippers," Hoeven says. The letter expressed concern the BNSF policy changes will hurt farmers, elevators, small towns, rural businesses and the economy of North Dakota.
